How to use the qr code generator

  1. Choose what the code does. Pick a link, plain text, Wi-Fi login, email, phone number or contact card, and fill in the details. The code updates as you type.
  2. Style it. Choose square, rounded or dot modules and the corner style, then set the colours. Dark codes on light backgrounds scan most reliably.
  3. Add your logo. Drop in a logo and it’s placed in the centre. Error correction is raised automatically so the code still scans with part of it covered.
  4. Test, then download. Scan it with your phone camera, then download an SVG for print and design work or a PNG for the web and documents.

Static codes that never expire

Many QR code sites make “dynamic” codes that point to their own short link, then charge a subscription or switch the code off later. Refract makes static codes: your link, Wi-Fi details or contact card are stored in the pattern itself. They work forever, even if Refract disappeared, and nobody can track who scans them.

How a logo fits without breaking the code

QR codes contain repeated data called error correction. At the highest level, up to about 30% of the code can be damaged or covered and phones still read it. Refract keeps the logo within that limit, clears the modules behind it and adds a small border so cameras can tell it apart from the code.

Printing tips

Leave a quiet border around the code, keep strong contrast, and print it at least 2 cm (about 0.8 in) wide for scanning at arm’s length; scale it up for posters viewed from further away. SVG files stay perfectly sharp at any size, so use them for print.

Frequently asked questions

Do these QR codes expire?

No. They’re static codes, so they keep working as long as the link or details inside them are still valid.

Can I track how many people scan my code?

Not with a static code. Add UTM parameters to your link, and your analytics will show visits that came from the code.

How does the Wi-Fi QR code work?

It uses the standard Wi-Fi format that iPhone and Android cameras recognise. Scanning it offers to join the network without typing the password.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. The code is generated in your browser, so your links, Wi-Fi passwords and contact details never leave your device.
