How to use the image format converter
- Add images. Drop in one image or a whole folder's worth. Paste from the clipboard works too.
- Choose the output format. WebP is the best all-round choice for websites. JPG is the most widely compatible, PNG keeps transparency without any loss, and AVIF gives the smallest files where it is supported.
- Set quality and background. Quality applies to JPG, WebP and AVIF. JPG cannot store transparency, so pick a colour to fill transparent areas.
- Download. Download each file, or all of them as a ZIP.
Which image format should I use?
Use WebP for most photos and graphics on websites; it is supported by every modern browser and is typically 25 to 35% smaller than JPG. Use AVIF for even smaller photos where you can. Use PNG for screenshots or graphics that need perfect edges, and SVG for logos and icons.
Converting SVG to PNG
SVG files are vector graphics, so they can be rendered at any size without losing sharpness. Use the SVG render scale to export at 2×, 3× or 4× the SVG's own size for high-resolution screens, app stores or social media.
Private by design
Conversion happens in your browser, so files are never uploaded. There are no file size limits other than your device's memory, and no watermarks.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert HEIC photos from my iPhone?
Only if your browser can open HEIC files, which currently means Safari. In other browsers, set your iPhone camera to Most Compatible or export the photos as JPG first.
Does converting PNG to JPG lose quality?
JPG uses lossy compression, so some detail is discarded. At 85% quality or higher the difference is rarely visible in photos, but text and sharp edges look better as PNG or WebP.
Will animated GIFs stay animated?
No. The converter exports the first frame as a still image.
